Workshop

EMS Test Bench Workshop

The EMS Test Bench offers students hands-on exposure to Engine Management Systems (EMS), enabling them to understand and simulate real world automotive control applications. This one-day workshop is designed to motivate and inspire students and working professionals to dive deeper into the world of embedded systems and ECU development.

Key Topics Covered

  • Experimental study on Fuel Injection and Ignition systems
  • Performing basic Engine Calibration experiments
  • Mapping raw sensor signals and integrating with controller logic
  • Actuating components based on control strategies
  • Developing Open ECUs using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, STM, and NXP
  • Creating ECU programming tools in Python, Java, C, Visual Studio
  • Designing Control Systems using MATLAB & Simulink

Hands-on Activities

  • Interface 5 key sensors: ECT, IAT, MAP, TPS, Crank Sensor
  • Control 2 actuators: Injector & Spark Plug using L298N
  • Design ADC & driver circuits
  • Write embedded C code to process and control real-time signals
  • Build your own mini Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Workshop Outcome

  • Understand the working of an ECU
  • Gain real-world skills in embedded systems
  • Write and test their own automotive control code
  • Be equipped to start their journey into Automotive ECU Development

What You'll Build & Learn

By the end of this workshop, participants will gain:

  • Sensor interfacing and conditioning signal
  • Voltage-to-physical parameter conversion (°C, kPa, %)
  • RPM measurement and throttle angle calculation
  • Actuator control using timing logic (injector/spark)
  • Debugging techniques via Serial Monitor and logic analyzers
  • Foundation for real ECU development
